Why FamiliaSync

Why we're building FamiliaSync

The tools families rely on every day have quietly become cloud services with subscriptions. We think your family's data deserves a different home.

The problem with family organizers

Every family runs on shared logistics: the calendar, the grocery list, the budget, the reminders about who needs to be where and when. Today, the apps that manage that shared life are almost all cloud services. Your family's schedule, spending, and plans live on a company's server, behind an account, usually behind a subscription.

That model has real costs beyond the monthly fee. Your data leaves your control. Features stop working without a connection. And when a service shuts down or changes its terms, your family's history goes with it.

A different bet: offline-first

FamiliaSync makes the opposite bet. Everything the app does - shared calendars, grocery lists, budgets, meal plans, tasks, notes, documents - lives in a local database on your own devices. There is no mandatory cloud account, no server in the middle, and no subscription.

  • Works fully offline - every feature, including the on-device AI assistant
  • AES-256-GCM encryption with secrets in the iOS Keychain and Android Keystore
  • Manual, encrypted device-to-device sync between the family devices you choose
  • Free forever - no subscription, no cloud account, no ads

Your family's data should live where your family lives - on your own devices, not on someone else's server.

What that means in practice

Add a grocery item in the basement with no signal and it just works. Check the family budget on a plane. Let the AI assistant summarize tomorrow's plan without a single byte leaving the device. When you want a second device to see the same data, you initiate an encrypted transfer directly between the devices you trust - nothing else is involved.

What 'free' actually means here

Free apps usually pay for themselves with your attention or your data. FamiliaSync is free because the architecture is cheap to run: the expensive part of a cloud organizer is the cloud - the servers, databases, and security team needed to hold everyone's data - and we don't operate one. There is nothing to monetize, so there is nothing to charge for.

What we're deliberately not building

No web app, no account system, no social feed, no engagement metrics. Those features only exist because data sits on a server somewhere, and we chose the constraint on purpose: if the data never reaches us, we can't lose it, sell it, or be compelled to hand it over. Every feature we ship has to work inside that boundary.

That's the bet. Families who need a browser login will be better served by a different app - and should have one. Families who want the organizer to live with the family can join the waitlist.
